据未来主义科学网站报道，美国国家航空航天局（NASA）科学家近日发布研究报告称，其发现并追踪到地球磁场中的一个奇怪“凹痕”，该凹痕正在缓慢向西移动，穿过南美洲和南大西洋，对“路过”该区域的卫星造成威胁，科研团队建议长期观测并建立预报机制。地球磁场是地球的保护伞，可以保护地球生物免受来自太阳高带电粒子（俗称太阳风）产生的危害。
