石炭纪作为准噶尔盆地东部(准东地区)海陆转换的关键时期,期间发育的火山岩和沉积岩记录古亚洲洋闭合和造山带增生的过程。国内外学者基于年代学和岩石地球化学数据证明石炭纪火山岩构造背景为俯冲作用下陆壳增生环境,并据此建立古亚洲洋闭合、陆-陆碰撞和后碰撞的构造演化模型。但是由于缺乏必要的沉积地层揭示,对于石炭纪期间海陆演化的细节过程存在较大争议,特别是早、晚石炭世沉积环境难以达成共识。
