当前我国的外语测试正面临一次较大的改革。高考为适应中学新课标的要求，须做适当的改变，大学英语考试为了适应大学英语教学的发展也要改革。所有这些改革需要大量的实证研究予以支持。为了促进我国语言测试的研究，广东外语外贸大学全国高校人文社科重点研究基地，即外国语言学及应用语言学研究中心，将于2006年12月8日举办一次语言测试专题研究会，会议主题为语言测试的研究方法。
